not local
Being online means you’re not local. You can be a regular, but not like in the physical world. You aren’t bound to a location. You sit in a room, but that’s only half of where you are. You lie in bed, but that’s not where you feel you are. Online, you don’t have to feel you’re anywhere.
Strange to me when people just use the internet to stay updated on things happening in their home town. Why join a forum for the place you walk through daily when you could join one for a city on the other side of the world? Why stay local?
My mobility is limited. I have working limbs, but I still don’t have the same freedom most of my peers do, for a lot of reasons. I don’t like the place I’m stuck in, but I can’t “just move,” as some people will say. Not that simple. Possible for them, maybe, but not for me.
The internet is a virtual portal. Not really a way out, since I’m still physically here, but a way between.
